Individualized myofunctional therapy is provided to patients of all ages. After an initial evaluation and referral from the primary care physician (if needed), sessions are designed around specific goals that are drafted by the therapist and approved by the parents. Therapy often works in conjunction with a dentist, orthodontist, ENT, periodontist, bodywork specialist, or lactation consultant in order to address the neuromuscular re-education or re-patterning of the oral and facial muscles. Therapy targets exercises, strengthening, behavior modification, dissociation, and grading of the facial and tongue to promote proper tongue position, improve breathing, chewing, and swallowing.
